It was Roy Ayers who said, “Bad is about as good as it gets!” “When Bad People Cook Good Food” is the first collection to cover the three year history of Chicago’s Fresh Meat Records ? including tracks from many of the label’s cast of bad characters. Key artists represented here include Audio Soul Project, Nathan Drew Larsen, Tuomas Salmela of Phonogenic, Phonique, King Roc, Will Saul & Tam Cooper, House of Black Dress, Worthy, Dan Berkson, Kyle Szmurlo, Wasted Chicago Youth, and Peace Division. “When Bad People Cook Good Food” is not a greatest hits; fans and new listeners alike will appreciate that eight of the songs on this release are exclusive, including unreleased tracks, fresh album only edits and a hot as hell new remix of the House of Black Dress classic “Gotahavejor Love” by Wasted Chicago Youth (Mazi & Justin Long). As a special bonus, this release comes alongside a sublime live DJ mix by Mazi under his Audio Soul Project guise featuring 13 of the songs in the collection. “Deep Trip” by Sandrino & Adryan, Fresh Meat?s newest signing, starts the mix and sets the stage for an album that elegantly blurs the boundaries between contemporary and classic house music.
The compilation is teaming with vibrant remixes, the crown jewels being what are arguably the best reworks by German outfit Phonique and Chicago to London transplant Dan Berkson. Vocal tunes by Audio Soul Project, Badmouth, and Mazi & Duriez give this record what so many contemporary tech house collections are missing. There are also two revisited gems from the vault. Nathan Drew Larsen?s “Mirari” and Audio Soul Project’s “Room With No Windows” both have been reinvented exclusively for this compilation. King Roc’s pastoral deep house remix of “Touch Me?, a colorfully epic rendition of Nathan Drew Larsen’s sexy original, ends the DJ mix version of this compilation. As promised some months ago, the unmixed version of this album contains the original version of Larsen’s “New Day In A New Home” complete with it’s glorious Prophet-8 infused intro - more honest electronic dance music from an artist with no boundaries. MOODGADGET was founded in 2004 by Jakub Alexander and Adam E. Hunt with the goal of exposing the diversity in electronically made music. Alexander and Hunt (who currently reside in Brooklyn and Los Angeles, respectively) became heavily involved in the electronic music scene through their work with the acclaimed Ghostly International label, and were frustrated by the public's misconception that all electronic music was "club" music. They wanted to draw attention to the fact that electronic music is a process, not a genre; within its broad walls lives a plethora of sounds–everything from catchy folk to melodic techno.
At the time of the label's foundation, the music industry was on the cusp of a digital revolution; with MySpace and the iTunes Music Store firing the starting pistols. Moodgadget seized a hold of these burgeoning technologies in order to bring their message of musical diversity to fruition. They released their breakthrough compilation, The Rorschach Suite digitally in the Summer of 2006; featuring 20 unique songs [many discovered on MySpace] at the bargain price of $9.99. The venture proved immensely successful, garnering immediate critical acclaim and fan appreciation. They've since gone on to release three consecutive top 30 compilations through iTunes; while receiving features in XLR8R, Lost at Sea and Textura.
Moodgadget has used BitTorrent–a controversial technology to distribute their artists' music; knowledgeable of the fact that in this rapidly evolving industry, music is increasingly becoming a promotional tool for touring, merchandising and licensing. In 2008, Moodgadget artists completed their first North American tour to many excited audiences [with some in the blogosphere saying it bested Girl Talk's concurrent tour]. The label also launched their first line of merchandise, and licensed music to retail heavyweights Prada and LG. Moodgadget hopes to expand their message of diversity into other forms of art and entertainment in 2009, including film and video games.

After 3 years Jeroenski is back with a new release on his Choice Recordings label. It's the follow up to Pasta For 2 which was released last year on Tempogroove and reached the Traxsource top 20.
The title track is again a very deep and smooth track with beautiful synths and punchy beats. To top things off Dave Mayer (Soulfuric Deep, Hardsoul Pressings) did a more pumping mix
On the second track of the e.p. Jeroenski goes tribal with African Nights. A sweaty, tribal groove with loads of percussion and some staby chords. As a bonus there's also a drums only mix so you can edit, re-edit or mash-up anyway you like.
